Frequently asked questions
What is Trailrace.co?
Trailrace.co is a global directory of trail races and ultramarathons, paired with a season planner. Search races by distance, elevation and location, save them to a calendar, work out which qualifiers you still need, and study a course in detail before race day.
Is Trailrace.co free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, searching the directory, saving races and building your season calendar are all free.
How do I find a trail race near me?
Search the directory by location and radius, then filter by distance, vertical gain, steepness, route type and month. You can also filter on registration status, lottery entry, qualifier requirements, and whether crew, pacers or drop bags are allowed. Results show on a map or as a list.
Which trail races have a lottery, and what are my odds?
Many of the biggest 100-milers fill by lottery because demand far outruns the number of places. Trailrace.co flags every race that uses one and shows its draw date and registration window. The Lottery Odds Calculator covers Western States, Hardrock, High Lonesome and UTMB, and gives you your chance of selection this year plus an estimated years-to-entry.
What is a race qualifier?
Some races only accept entrants who have already finished an approved qualifying race. Trailrace.co lists each race's qualifier rules, its qualifying window and its submission deadline, and helps you find a race that will qualify you.
Can I see a race course before race day?
Yes. The Course Explorer walks the route mile by mile on a map, with its elevation profile, aid stations, cutoff times, drop-bag points and crew access. It is free and you do not need an account.

Cutoff
The latest time you are allowed to leave a given point on the course and stay in the race.
Qualifier
A race you must already have finished before you are allowed to enter another one.
Lottery
A random draw used to hand out entries when far more runners apply than a race can take.
Drop bag
A bag you pack in advance that the race transports to a named aid station, so your spare socks, headlamp batteries and food are waiting for you there.
