Two Rockies summits, 9.5 hours, and a baptism by Grande Mountain's notorious powerline descent.
The Near Death Marathon is a 41.3km course covering the first two legs of the full Canadian Death Race, taking runners from downtown Grande Cache along quad trails past Grande Cache Lake and Peavine Lake, then up and over both Flood Mountain and Grande Mountain in a grueling double-summit challenge. The course returns to the Start/Finish in Grande Cache via the infamous Grande Mountain powerline descent — steep, rocky, and unforgiving. With 1,775m of elevation gain and a 9.5-hour cutoff, this is a serious race in its own right and serves as a challenging preview of the full Death Race experience.
