HURT 100 Mile Endurance Run

The HURT 100 is widely considered one of the most grueling 100-mile races in ultrarunning, sending runners through Honolulu's tropical rainforest on five loops connecting the Mānoa, Makiki, and Nu'uanu valleys. The course runs almost entirely on technical single-track choked with roots, rocks, mud, and 22 stream crossings—there are almost no sections where a consistent stride is possible for more than a few hundred yards at a time. Over 100 miles, runners accumulate 24,500 feet of gain and loss through hot, humid jungle between 300 and 1,900 feet elevation. With a historical finish rate of just 47% from 2001 to 2023, the HURT 100 has been humbling even experienced ultrarunners since its inaugural edition in 2001, when only eight runners finished. Entry is by weighted kukui nut lottery, limited to 135 starters, with a mandatory 8-hour trail work requirement.
