200km loop of Ireland's Iveragh Peninsula on the historic Kerry Way trail
The Kerry Way Ultra traverses the entire 200km length of the Kerry Way, a long-distance trail looping around the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, Ireland. Starting and finishing at the Killarney Racecourse, runners cross mountain passes, boggy ground, ancient green roads, coastal paths, and country lanes through some of Ireland's most dramatic scenery, touching on Irish history, archaeology, and folklore. Two start waves cater to different ambitions: a 6am Intermediate wave with a 40-hour limit, and a 10am Expert wave with a 36-hour limit and podium eligibility. The race is self-sufficient — no food aid is provided, only emergency water at the nine crew stops — and a mandatory gear check ensures runners are prepared for Kerry's notoriously changeable mountain weather. The night section passes through a Gold Tier International Dark Sky Association reserve, officially the darkest area in the Northern Hemisphere. The Kerry Way Ultra is a Western States Endurance Run qualifying race for finishers within the 40-hour limit.
