40km from Monte above Funchal to Machico — Madeira's accessible classic for trail newcomers
Starting in the historic hilltop district of Monte above Funchal, the MIUT Marathon offers 40 kilometres of trail running with approximately 1,450 metres of elevation gain — the most approachable distance in the MIUT festival. A sustained climb through the Funchal Ecological Park kicks things off before the route joins the MIUT Legend course at Chão da Lagoa and flows east through levada paths and coastal trails to Machico. Fast, scenic, and achievable, it's an ideal entry point to Madeira's iconic race terrain.
