A sacred loop through eight lakes and volcanic terrain in the Rotorua heartland
The Tarawera Miler is a 163km loop through the volcanic heartland of the Rotorua region, weaving between eight glistening lakes beneath the sacred peaks of Mt Tarawera, Ruawahia, and Wahanga. Starting at Te Puia's geothermal hub in the pre-dawn darkness, the course traverses single-track trails, native forest, and forestry roads, and includes a one-of-a-kind boat ride across Lake Rotomahana. With world-class aid station support and a generous 36-hour cutoff, the Miler is designed for completion — a deeply moving journey through Māori lands, dense redwood stands, and steaming thermal flats, finishing at Village Green in the heart of downtown Rotorua.
