A challenging singletrack journey along the southern half of the Great Lake Trail.
The 70km event starts at Richardson's Farm on Hingarae Road, picking up the course where the 100km runners have already passed. Runners head through rolling private farmland and the scenic Otutira Forest before joining the Great Lake Trail's Kawakawa section, descending into Kawakawa Bay and threading through native bush to Kinloch. The final 24km takes in the W2K Trail and Headland Loop — an exposed ridgeline with sweeping views of Lake Taupō and Tongariro National Park — before finishing at Whakaipo Bay. The last section may require a headlamp for slower runners.
