What Makes It Great

From a beach start at sea level in Los Cristianos on Tenerife's south coast, this iconic point-to-point traverses the entire island northward through some of the world's most dramatic volcanic landscapes. Runners climb through lava fields and malpaís to summit Mount Teide at 3,555 metres — Spain's highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site — before descending through pine and laurel forests to the beach finish in Puerto de la Cruz. The race is famous for its 'sea of clouds' views from the summit, where the Atlantic trade-wind cloud layer stretches below like a calm ocean. Combining extreme altitude, volcanic terrain, and sweeping oceanic vistas, this is one of Europe's most distinctive and celebrated mountain races.
