What Makes It Great

The flagship distance of TransJeju by UTMB circumnavigates the volcanic interior of Jeju Island, South Korea's southernmost province. Starting at 21:00 on Friday and running through two nights, the 148 km course threads through Hallasan National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage site — climbing past subtropical forests, ancient lava fields, and basalt staircases to the slopes of South Korea's highest peak. The terrain is notoriously technical: volcanic rock gardens shift underfoot, steep staircases carved from lava demand careful foot placement, and wooden boardwalks through forest sections become treacherous in rain. Runners pass through 11 checkpoints across the island, finishing at Jeju World Cup Stadium in Seogwipo.
