What Makes It Great

Oceania's premier 100-mile ultra, the KosciMiler threads through the heart of Australia's Snowy Mountains — weaving across alpine meadows, snow gum forests, and golden pastures, over crystal-clear creeks and past ski villages, culminating in a summit of Mt Kosciuszko (2228m), the highest point on mainland Australia. The course starts in Jindabyne, climbs through the Thredbo Valley to the alpine plateau, visits Perisher, Charlotte Pass, Guthega and Smiggin Holes, then finishes at Friday Flat in Thredbo. Exceptionally runnable and scenic, with outstanding crew support access throughout.

Crew Access Points

Pacer Rules

  • Pacers allowed from CP6 Guthega Power Station 1 (~97km). One pacer at a time; up to 3 total, swapping only at designated checkpoints. Pacers must register online by 26 November 2026, carry full mandatory gear, wear a numbered bib, and attend runner check-in. Pacers run free. Pacers may not carry food/water for the runner except in emergencies.

Crew Rules

  • Support crews allowed at designated crew-access checkpoints only. May assist runners within 500m either side of checkpoints. Cannot run alongside runners outside checkpoint zones.
Weather

Late November sits at the start of the Australian summer. Expect warm daytime temperatures at lower elevations (15–22°C) and cold nights at altitude (near 0°C or below at the summit). The Snowy Mountains are notorious for volatile alpine weather: sudden thunderstorms, rapid temperature drops, and strong winds on exposed ridgelines are all possible. The 2024 edition saw a two-hour race hold due to adverse weather. Runners start at 3:00am and will experience the full range of overnight and daytime conditions.

Rapid Weather Changes

Snowy Mountains alpine conditions can deteriorate rapidly; race was paused ~2 hours for adverse weather in 2024

Cold/Hypothermia Risk

3:00am start and overnight sections at altitude; near-freezing temperatures possible at summit (2228m)
