100 km of Saharan sand in one push, with a 40-hour limit
The shorter option of the non-stop MDS Ultra in the Moroccan Sahara. Runners start with the 100-mile field, share the first ~60 km, then take the 100 km branch at the fork and finish at the same line. Gain is about 580 m, but running and walking on sand makes it far harder than the numbers suggest. The race is food self-sufficient: water stations about every 10 km, and life bases about every 30 km with hot drinks, soup and heated shelters. The time limit is 40 hours at a minimum of 4 km/h.
