A 103 km single-lap traverse of the Bucegi Range, starting and finishing at Dracula's castle
The longest of the five Transylvania 100 races is a single grand loop out of the courtyard of Bran Castle and back. Runners climb 1,450 m in the first 10 km to Saua Tiganesti, drop to the Malaiesti hut, then grind up the Malaiesti Valley to Varful Omu at 2,505 m, the roof of the Bucegi. The route splits from the 80k at Pestera, loops back over Omu a second time by way of Valea Obarsiei, and plunges 1,100 m down Valea Cerbului to Busteni. From there it climbs back onto the plateau at Piatra Arsa and runs the long descending traverse through Bolboci and Saua Strunga before a final night section through Moieciu de Sus and Poiana Gutanu. Twisting singletrack, ancient forest, open alpine plateau and windswept ridge are all linked in one lap. Runners carry a full mandatory kit and are self-sufficient between checkpoints, though thirteen staffed checkpoints provide food and drink along the way.

Late May in the Bucegi is a shoulder season. Bran village sits at 750 m and is usually mild, around 8 to 20 C, but the course spends many hours above 1,900 m where it is far colder. Snowfall on the plateau in late May is not unusual, and the organisers warn that temperatures above treeline can drop well below freezing, especially overnight. Wind, fog, rain and hail can all arrive within the same day, and lingering snowfields and ice are common on the high traverses around Varful Omu and Hornurile Malaiesti.
