What Makes It Great

The 20k is the entry point to the Transylvania 100 weekend and the only one of the five that does not start at Bran Castle. Runners assemble by the castle and are bussed to the Bangaleasa Valley barrier at Moieciu de Sus for an 11:00 start. A 2 km forest road leads into a steep 2.5 km climb gaining about 650 m to Grohotis at 1,760 m, the high point of the race. From there the route joins the 50k line and descends almost continuously through alpine meadow and forest to the hunting lodge at Poiana Gutanu, then Poiana Gaura, and runs out through forest and forest road to the castle, with short climbs at Saua Polite and Muchia Grajdului. No previous mountain running experience is required, but the full mandatory kit list still applies.
