50 km and 3,320 m of climbing over Varful Omu, the highest point in the Bucegi
The 50k is the shortest race that reaches the roof of the Bucegi. It leaves Bran Castle at 07:00 and climbs 1,450 m in the opening 10 km to Saua Tiganesti, descends to the Malaiesti hut, then takes the steep stone path up the Malaiesti Valley to Hornurile Malaiesti and on to Varful Omu at 2,505 m. A fast runnable traverse leads to the Batrana refuge and a steep drop to Pestera, where hot soup waits and the longer races head the other way. From there the 50k runs a gentler line through Padina to Saua Strunga, then descends almost continuously through Poiana Gutanu and Poiana Gaura, finishing over Muchia Grajdului into the castle courtyard. It has the largest entry limit of the weekend at 700 places.

Late May in the Bucegi is a shoulder season. Bran village sits at 750 m and is usually mild, around 8 to 20 C, but the course spends many hours above 1,900 m where it is far colder. Snowfall on the plateau in late May is not unusual, and the organisers warn that temperatures above treeline can drop well below freezing, especially overnight. Wind, fog, rain and hail can all arrive within the same day, and lingering snowfields and ice are common on the high traverses around Varful Omu and Hornurile Malaiesti.
