The Montane Lakeland 100 is a 100-mile circular ultra that traverses the entire Lake District, starting and finishing in Coniston. The route cuts through remote valleys and across open fell country, linking the villages of Eskdale, Wasdale, Buttermere, and Keswick before heading east through Haweswater and south via Kentmere, Ambleside, and Elterwater. With 6,300m of ascent and no waymarking on course, competitors must navigate independently using Harvey maps, a roadbook, and GPS across 14 compulsory checkpoints. The race begins Friday evening, meaning most runners spend a full night on the fells. Finish rates hover around 60%, and the race's stated 40-50% historical failure rate has humbled many experienced competitors.

Must meet one of: (1) completed the Lakeland 50 in under 16 hours (2024–2025); (2) previously completed the Lakeland 100 in any year; (3) completed a 100-mile or longer trail ultra (2024–2025); (4) completed a 50mi+ mountain event with 3,000m+ of ascent in under 16 hours on mountain terrain such as the Lakes, Scotland, or Snowdonia (2024–2025).

Two nights of camping (Friday and Saturday) available at race HQ, John Ruskin School, Coniston. Toilets and showers on site from Friday through Sunday afternoon. Competitors arriving before Friday should use local campsites in the Coniston area.
Lake District weather is notoriously changeable; rain, strong winds, and low cloud can arrive at any time, especially on higher fell sections
Night temperatures on the fells can drop significantly, particularly in wet and windy conditions — fully waterproof jacket and trousers are mandatory kit
