What Makes It Great

The Montane Lakeland 50 covers the southern half of the Lakeland 100 circuit in a point-to-point route from Dalemain Estate on the shores of Ullswater to the finish in Coniston. Competitors are bussed from race HQ to the start, then navigate independently across 50 miles of unmarked fell terrain with nearly 3,000m of ascent. The route follows the eastern shore of Ullswater to Howtown, climbs over to Haweswater, and continues through Long Sleddale, Kentmere, Ambleside, and Langdale before a final climb to the Coniston finish. Six staffed checkpoints provide food and support. Despite a 24-hour cutoff, the unwamarked fell terrain, potential night running, and demanding elevation make this a serious challenge for any runner.
