A 14-mile high-altitude trail challenge at 10,000+ feet—the entry point to Sheep Mountain
Other trail races within 38 miles
The Sheep Mountain Heavy Half covers 14.2 miles of trail and USFS roads starting from the Town of Fairplay Beach at 8:00 AM. Despite its modest distance, the course runs consistently above 9,900 feet with a high point near 10,794 feet, making altitude the central challenge rather than pace or distance. The out-and-loop route visits Foxtail aid station and the Horseshoe hub before returning to the finish. Previously held as a separate June race (South Park Trail Runs), the Heavy Half joined the August Sheep Mountain weekend in 2024—and doubles as the drop-down destination for runners stepping off from the 50-Mile or 50k.
