Crazy Mountain 100

The Crazy Mountain 100 is the kind of race that only exists because a lot of people believed in something bigger than themselves. Set in the remote Crazy Mountains of north-central Montana - known to the Apsáalooke people as Awaxaawippíia, meaning "ominous mountain" - the course threads through terrain that most runners will never otherwise set foot on. Four multi-generational cattle ranches open their private land specifically for race day, creating a point-to-point route that doesn't exist any other time of year: jagged cliffs, open scree fields, high alpine lakes, and 23,000 feet of climbing above 10,000 feet, with no cell service, no Wi-Fi, and no permanent infrastructure in sight.

Race director Megan DeHaan, a local cattle rancher turned ultra addict, has built the event with a commitment to land stewardship, Indigenous history, and genuine community - right down to the hand-engraved finisher buckles and an eight-hour volunteer requirement baked into every entry. The field is capped at 200, the finishing rate hovers around 60%, and it sells out every year — not because of marketing, but because runners who've been there tell other runners.
