The 50K serves as the trail-running entry point into the Kaga Spa mountains, launching at dawn from Yukemuri Kenkou Village as 100K runners are still on course. The 56.7km route follows a condensed version of the mountain circuit, climbing through the Kutani watershed and into the deep beech forests before descending through the Takigahara valley and into Yamanaka Onsen. A 2,607m elevation profile makes this a genuinely challenging ultramarathon despite the distance, with technical mountain terrain and Japan's June rainy season adding unpredictability.
