8.6 miles above 9,000 feet on the Rainbow Trail — the festival's entry-level distance
Other trail races within 72 miles
The Sangre de Cristo 8 Mile packs a genuine high-altitude mountain challenge into just 8.6 miles, with 2,400 feet of climbing between 9,193 and 11,421 feet on the Rainbow Trail. Starting on Sunday morning alongside the 27K field, this is the most accessible distance at the festival — but the elevation and terrain make it a real workout. There are no aid stations on course and no crew or pacer access; runners carry everything they need for the short but demanding loop to Music Pass and back.
