What Makes It Great

The 50K starts in the small town of La Veta and traces 32 miles through the San Isabel National Forest to the village of Cuchara — a true point-to-point adventure. The route begins on a low-trafficked county road with sunrise views of the Spanish Peaks before pushing into wildfire recovery terrain from the 2018 Spring Creek Fire. Runners encounter 4 unavoidable stream crossings in a flood-damaged canyon, then climb 6 miles and nearly 2,900 feet to the high point on Raspberry Mountain at 11,147 ft. The descent winds through dense lodgepole and aspen forest with panoramic views of the Spanish Peaks, finishing at the Cuchara Yacht Club during the town's annual Oktoberfest celebration. No pacers, no drop bags; crew access at two designated checkpoints along the final 9 miles.
