What Makes It Great

A high-altitude point-to-point adventure through Colorado's South Park mining country, the Silverheels 100 Mile starts at the Burning Bear Trailhead in Grant and finishes at the historic Como Roundhouse after traversing 106 non-repetitive miles across two national forests and three ranger districts. Runners navigate singletrack trails and mountain roads at an average elevation of over 10,800', passing through ghost towns, past abandoned mines, and over passes above 12,000' with views of nearly 20 Colorado 14ers. Second highest 100-miler in the US by average elevation (behind only Hardrock 100), this is a demanding qualifier- and volunteer-service-gated event run annually in July's monsoon season with all the lightning, hail, and 30-degree overnight lows that entails.
