The Umstead 100 formally recognizes 50 miles (four laps of the 12.5-mile loop) as an official distance. Runners register under the same combined entry as the 100-mile event. No qualifying race is required for the 50-mile option. The first male and female 50-mile finishers receive an acrylic triangle award; 100-mile finishers are not eligible for these awards.
