What Makes It Great

The OG Yeti 100 follows the legendary Virginia Creeper Trail and surrounding rail corridor through the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, connecting the small-town charm of Abingdon and Damascus with 120-plus trestle crossings over mountain streams and hollows. Unlike the elevation-heavy hundreds of the American West, the Yeti's crushed limestone course rewards consistent pacing over raw climbing fitness — making it a destination race for runners chasing their first 100-mile finish or a fast qualifier time. The course is a series of out-and-backs along the rail trail, passing through Damascus multiple times (where a reggae band and Mexican food truck greet runners in the evening). The 30-hour cutoff is realistic but demands steady effort through the night. A cupless race since 2011, the Yeti has cultivated a tight-knit community around trail stewardship and a no-nonsense volunteer culture.
