What Makes It Great

A point-to-point showcase on the Black Canyon National Recreation Trail through the Sonoran Desert, the 100K covers 62 miles from Spring Valley south to New River. The net-downhill course starts fast on open desert singletrack, then turns increasingly technical and demanding through steep descents and rocky canyon terrain in the final 25 miles. As a WSER Golden Ticket race and World Trail Majors event, it draws a competitive international field and offers direct qualification for Western States 100.

Race Highlights

WSER Golden Ticket race
Top 3 male and female finishers earn automatic entry into Western States 100; sub-17-hour finishes qualify for the WSER lottery
World Trail Majors event
One of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors — a bucket-list series featuring the best trail ultras on the planet
62 miles of desert history
Follows the Black Canyon National Recreation Trail, a route traced by Native American traders, livestock droveways, and stagecoach roads since the 1800s
Deceptive second half
A fast first 30 miles gives way to steep climbs, rocky canyon descents, and multiple river crossings in the final stretch
Multiple river crossings
The Agua Fria River is crossed several times around mile 34 — crossings may be dry or require rock-hopping depending on rainfall

Finish Awards

Finisher Buckle
All 100K finishers receive a Black Canyon Ultras belt buckle. Top 3 male and female finishers also receive podium awards.

I've start this race 4 times and finished 3 times... and I'm not done. Love it. Fast, runnable, warm. Overall great race. Near and dear to my heart.
