The Cocodona 250 is a 252.9-mile point-to-point journey from the Sonoran Desert of Black Canyon City to downtown Flagstaff, traversing the Black Canyon National Recreation Trail, Prescott Circle Trail, and the Arizona Trail over 5–6 days. Runners pass through the historic towns of Crown King, Prescott's Whiskey Row, Jerome, Clarkdale, and Sedona, climbing from 1,996 feet in the desert to 9,241 feet in the mountains. With 21 fully stocked aid stations offering hot meals and 4 water drops, this is the most diverse 200-mile footrace in America — a genuine tour of Arizona's full geographic character from saguaro cactus to Ponderosa pine.

Dogs may not accompany their runner on any section of the course. Crews may have dogs at aid stations but the dog must be; 1-well behaved, 2-leashed at all times, 3-you must pick up after your dog. Dogs are not allowed out of crew vehicles at the Mingus Mountain Aid Station.
Camping is available at the start line. This includes cars, vans, trailers, and RVs. The Start Line is located at Deep Canyon Ranch
Desert sections below 4,000 ft can be extremely hot in May. The 25-mile exposed stretch after Cottonwood Creek (miles 10–36) takes back-of-pack runners 10–13 hours in full sun — runners must leave Cottonwood Creek with at least 4 liters of water.
Higher elevations above 7,000 ft (Prescott, Mingus Mountain, Flagstaff area) can drop below freezing at night. Cold weather gear is mandatory on mountain sections and checked at multiple aid stations.
Afternoon thunderstorms possible in May on exposed mountain sections above Prescott and near Flagstaff.
Course reaches 9,241 feet — altitude acclimatization recommended for runners coming from sea level.
