What Makes It Great

The flagship Javelina Jundred 100 Mile covers one 22-mile opening loop on the Escondido Trail, followed by four 19-mile loops on the Pemberton, Shallmo, and Cinch trails — a five-loop format that cycles runners through the party at Javelina Jeadquarters all night long. The course is fast by desert 100-mile standards, with just over 6,000 feet of gain on rolling Sonoran singletrack, making it popular for debut hundreds and PR attempts alike. The race is a WSER Golden Ticket event — the top 2 men and women earn automatic entry to the following spring's Western States 100 — and all finishers under 30 hours earn a 2027 WSER lottery qualifier.

  • Pacers may not mule or carry gear or supplies for the runner

Crew Rules

  • Crew access at Javelina Jeadquarters only; crews see their runner every 20 miles without needing to move
  • 10x10 canopies allowed in designated crew areas outside camping zones; crew space reservation required in advance
Weather

Late October in the Sonoran Desert brings warm afternoons (70-85°F) with full sun on open singletrack, and cool nights dropping to the low 40s-50s°F. Runners cycle through both extremes multiple times, requiring a hydration-heavy strategy for daytime miles and layering for overnight loops.

Heat Training Recommended

Daytime temperatures can reach 80-85°F on fully exposed desert singletrack during early loops

Cold/Hypothermia Risk

Overnight temperatures drop to the low 40s°F; layers and a headlamp are critical for all 100-mile runners

High UV Exposure

Course runs entirely in open desert with minimal shade; sunscreen required for any daytime miles

Gear Rules

Required Gear

  • Reusable cup or vessel (Javelina is a cupless race — no disposable cups provided at any aid station)

Recommended Gear

  • Headlamp with extra batteries (Essential for overnight loops; reflective gear also advised)
  • Warm layer for overnight sections (Temperatures drop to low 40s°F after dark; gloves and jacket strongly recommended)
  • High-SPF sunscreen (Fully exposed desert course with no shade during daytime loops)
