What Makes It Great

The Blackall100 100km threads through subtropical rainforest, towering eucalypt forests, and deep gullies of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland, following much of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk. The course packs in 3,290 metres of elevation gain over 101 kilometres, passing iconic landmarks including Kondalilla Falls (with its dramatic rock pool circuit), Baxter Creek Falls (crossed via a suspension bridge limited to two people at a time), and the notorious 'Gav's Gut Buster' climb on Gheerulla Bluff with sweeping Mary Valley views. With a 24-hour cutoff, most runners experience the full journey from sunrise through the night, requiring headlamps for the final hours. Hot October conditions — temperatures regularly reaching 30–40°C — are by design: the race was conceived as a WSER qualifying event to prepare runners for Western States' legendary heat. All finishers ring the iconic Blackall100 bell at the finish line.
