Twice around a hidden gem coastal headland above the Oregon Dunes
Other trail races within 135 miles
The 50K runs the 25K loop course twice, climbing through old-growth Sitka spruce and Douglas fir rainforest on Cape Mountain's coastal headland. Runners cross Berry Creek twice per loop — a 10-foot-wide ford with no bridge — and pass through sweeping open meadows on Nelson Ridge with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, the Siuslaw River Valley, and the Oregon Dunes. The course follows purpose-built equestrian singletrack that drains well and flows nicely, with manageable roots but neither terribly steep nor technical grades. Named Hu'wiina by the native Siuslaw people, the mountain rises nearly 1,500 feet above sea level just north of Sea Lion Caves.
