What Makes It Great

The Huron 100 runs one line, start to finish, across Southeast Michigan's Huron River Watershed. It starts at Portage Lake in Waterloo State Recreation Area and ends at Proud Lake State Recreation Area, passing through nine parks on the way. The first third follows the sandy, rolling Waterloo-Pinckney Trail and the Potawatomi Trail, with boardwalks over marsh. A paved stretch on the Lakelands Trail gives a short rest before the single track of Brighton State Recreation Area and its rocky Torn Shirt Trail. Night falls in Huron Meadows and Island Lake, and the sun comes up over Kent Lake in Kensington Metropark before the last flat, piney miles into Proud Lake. The course is about 82% trail with roughly 8,200 ft of climbing. The hills are short, but the late 9 AM start puts most of the field on course all night, and only about half of starters finish inside 32 hours. The race is run by a 501(c)(3), and proceeds go to the watershed.
