Mt. Tam ridge, Muir Woods redwoods, and the legendary Dipsea steps in 18.8 miles
Other trail races within 110 miles
A demanding 30K through some of the Bay Area's most celebrated terrain, the Muir Woods Mountain Challenge 30K tackles Mt. Tamalpais from the Stinson Beach shore. The course opens with a brutal 2,000-foot climb up Willow Camp hill in the first two miles, rewarded by sweeping Pacific Ocean views along the single-track Coastal Trail ridgeline. After descending the damp and technical Matt Davis Trail, runners climb again via the Dipsea Trail, wind through Muir Woods National Monument's towering old-growth redwoods, and summit Cardiac Hill before the iconic — and famously harrowing — Dipsea steps carry them back down to the beach finish.
