What Makes It Great

A self-supported 100-mile journey through the remote backcountry of the North Cascades near Lake Wenatchee, Washington. Two lollipop loops depart from Deep Creek Campground with no course markings, no aid stations, and no pacers — runners navigate by map and written directions alone across USFS trails and forest roads. The course accumulates roughly 21,000 feet of elevation gain passing through the Wenatchee, Entiat, and Chelan ranger districts, climbing as high as 6,834-foot Klone Peak. A single resupply stop is permitted at Deep Creek between loops. Often described as one of the hardest 100-milers in the world, Plain has cancelled multiple times due to Cascade wildfires, adding an element of uncertainty to this raw wilderness endurance test.

No aid stations, no course markings, no pacers — runners carry everything and navigate by map through remote North Cascades backcountry
Navigate by map and directions
The course has no flagging — runners use Green Trails Map #146 and written directions on unmarked USFS trails
21,000 ft of gain through two loops
Two lollipop loops climbing through the Wenatchee, Entiat, and Chelan ranger districts to 6,834-foot Klone Peak
Washington Grand Slam
One of four 100-milers required to complete the Washington State Grand Slam, alongside Badger Mountain, Lumberjack, and Cascade Crest
No finishers in 4 of the first 5 years
