What Makes It Great

The flagship 50-mile route links five trail systems — Boy Scout Ranch, Elkhorn, Lady Moon, Lone Pine, and Killpecker — across private Scout land and surrounding Roosevelt National Forest in the Laramie Mountains. Starting from Coral Rock Dining Hall, the course climbs to a high point just below 11,000 feet between Middle and North Bald Mountains, with sweeping views of the Mummy Range, Never Summer Range, and Medicine Bow Mountains. The terrain shifts from buttery Colorado singletrack to technical Red Feather hardscrabble and rugged Forest Service jeep tracks. One intermediate cutoff at mile 32.4 (Granite Ridge) ensures runners are back on camp property before dark. The area is typically in bow-hunting season during race weekend, adding a distinctive Northern Colorado character.
