Fast out-and-back on Oregon's Wild & Scenic River through volcanic canyon country
Other trail races within 156 miles
A fast out-and-back along the Upper Rogue Wild & Scenic River, running 99% singletrack on the Upper Rogue River Trail from National Creek to the Takelma Gorge turnaround and back to the Union Creek finish. The first half traverses backcountry-style trail above pumice canyon rims with rolling punchy climbs; the second half runs more developed, faster trail with increasing sections of technical basalt lava rock. Highlights include Natural Bridge — where the Rogue River disappears into a lava tube — and the Takelma Gorge chasm at the turnaround point. Vibrant fall foliage throughout makes this one of the most scenic 50Ks in the Pacific Northwest.

Union Creek Campground is adjacent to the race staging area and open for race weekend. Reservable via Recreation.gov — fills quickly. Drinking water and vault toilets; no electricity, showers, or hookups. Large RVs and trailers over 16 ft are strongly discouraged due to narrow roads and large trees. Year-round camping with full amenities also available at Joseph H. Stewart County Park, approximately 20 miles south on Hwy 62.
October brings a high likelihood of rain in the Southern Oregon Cascades. The mostly shaded course and river provide a cooling effect on warm days.
