What Makes It Great

The Telluride Mountain Run 40 Mile is one of the most demanding mountain ultra-distances in Colorado, delivering 15,000 feet of elevation gain across 40 miles of jeep roads, singletrack, and the infamous 'Mile and a Half of Sky' — a sharply exposed ridgeline above 13,000 feet between Ajax Peak and Imogene Pass, including the 13,500-foot summit of Telluride Peak. The 2026 course is newly redesigned to spend more time at altitude with harder peak ascents on the second half, crossing above 12,000 feet five times and above 13,000 feet twice. Race founder Dakota Jones described the redesign in three words: 'The course is really hard.'
