What Makes It Great

A 161km loop through the Val d'Orcia UNESCO World Heritage Site, departing Friday evening and running through sunset, night, and dawn to finish in Castiglione d'Orcia on Saturday. The course covers three distinct zones: the wine country above Montalcino (home of Brunello wine) with the Abbey of Sant'Antimo; the classic Tuscan landscapes near Pienza and San Quirico d'Orcia; and the wilder mountain terrain climbing to 1,050m at Vivo d'Orcia. The semi-autonomous route follows the famous white gravel roads of the Val d'Orcia (strade bianche), forest singletrack, and village paths, with multiple river crossings and passages through medieval towns. A GPS tracker is provided to all 100-mile participants.
