A relentless 3,750-foot sufferfest through the most dramatic features of the 23K course
Other trail races within 60 miles
The Broken Arrow 18K packs most of the 23K's iconic features into 11 miles: Red Dog Ridge, the Stairway to Heaven ladder, and the fast descending Western States trail. What it lacks in total distance it makes up for in near-constant climbing — the race website calls it 'the 23K without any runnable sections.' A noon start time means it often runs the hottest of the weekend. At 18 years minimum age and 6-hour cutoff, it's a genuine test for experienced trail runners stepping up from the 11K.
