What Makes It Great

The centerpiece of the Broken Arrow weekend, the 23K traces a single high-alpine loop through Palisades Tahoe's most celebrated terrain. From the ski village at 6,200 feet, runners climb through forest to the exposed Red Dog Ridge and traverse the technical Headwall between KT-22 and Washeshu Peak, crossing the famous Stairway to Heaven ladder at the 9,000-foot high point. The descent threads through Shirley Canyon—often snow-covered even in June—before a final climb to High Camp and a screaming descent to the KT Sundeck finish. Mostly above treeline with spectacular Lake Tahoe views, it is a WMRA World Cup gold-label event and Golden Trail World Series stop with the largest winner's purse ($30,000) of any trail race in the world.
