What Makes It Great

A winter point-to-point ultra through New River Gorge National Park, the Cabin Fever 50K runs from downtown Fayetteville to Hawks Nest State Park on a course that overlaps much of the Rim to River 100 route. Runners cross high ridgeline singletrack with sweeping winter views, drop to the New River banks just beneath the iconic New River Gorge Bridge, and pass waterfalls that may be partially frozen in February. The 300-runner field cap is set by the National Park Service, and cold, wet, or icy conditions are common in mid-winter Appalachia. This is the original winter ultra in New River Gorge and a popular early-season test for runners building toward longer events.
