What Makes It Great

The Laurel Highlands Ultra 70.5 Mile traverses the entire Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail point-to-point from Ohiopyle State Park to Seward in southwestern Pennsylvania. One of the oldest trail ultras in the United States, the race has run continuously since 1980 and covers rugged singletrack with relentless technical footing—steep grades, rocks, roots, logs, and mud throughout. All but the front runners will be on course after dark, requiring a reliable flashlight by mile 46. Eight fully stocked aid stations punctuate the route, with drop bag access at miles 46 and 57. The trail is permanently marked with yellow blazes and concrete mile markers at every mile, making navigation straightforward despite the demanding terrain.
