What Makes It Great

The flagship 120 km route begins in the medieval hilltop village of Radda in Chianti at 4 AM, traversing 5,200 m of elevation across the rolling Sienese Chianti countryside. The first 40 km wind gently through vineyard-covered hills before the course turns technical, ascending Monte Luco and Monte San Michele. The full loop passes 25 castles belonging to the ancient Lega del Chianti — one of the most scenic ultra courses in Europe, celebrated by both elite runners and weekend warriors alike.

Weather

The race takes place in late March in Tuscany, when spring is arriving but conditions remain unpredictable. Daytime temperatures typically range 8–16°C, dropping to 2–8°C overnight at higher elevations. Rain is common during this season and can make the course muddy, particularly on the mountain sections. Morning fog is possible in the valleys. There is no significant altitude exposure — the course stays below 1,000 m — but wind on exposed ridgelines can add to the chill overnight.

Rain/Wet Conditions

March in Tuscany is a wet month. Rain before or during the race can make vineyard paths slick and mountain sections muddy.

Cold/Hypothermia Risk

With a 4 AM start, runners experience the coldest hours of the night before sunrise. Temperatures on exposed ridgelines can approach 0°C.
