What Makes It Great

L'Endurance Trail is the longest event of the Festival des Templiers, tackling 99.5 km through the ancient limestone plateaus and spectacular river gorges of southern France's Grands Causses. The race begins at 4 AM from Millau, sending runners into darkness across the Causse Noir on 20 km of technical singletrack before descending into the majestic Tarn Gorge. Runners traverse three causse plateaus — Causse Noir, Causse Méjean, and Larzac — and three river valleys, passing medieval villages and prehistoric landmarks along the way. Technical trail runs dominate the middle sections, particularly along cliff-edge paths above the Jonte Valley. The final stretch follows the breathtaking corniche de Larzac above the Dourbie Valley before a classic descent to Millau through the Grotte du Hibou. With only five aid stations across 100 km, the route demands self-sufficiency and rewards those who embrace the raw, untamed character of the Aveyron backcountry.
