The historic race that launched trail running in France — 80K through the Grands Causses
Other trail races within 187 miles
Le Grand Trail des Templiers is the original and most celebrated event of the festival, widely credited as one of the races that ignited trail running in France when it launched in 1995. Runners depart in the pre-dawn darkness from Millau on Sunday morning, climbing onto the causses for a 80.7 km loop through the iconic limestone plateaus and forested ravines of Aveyron. The course blends demanding climbs with technical singletrack descents and passes through several historic villages and viewpoints. The Grand Trail draws elite international competition and an enormous field of amateur runners, creating an electric atmosphere at both the predawn start and the jubilant Sunday afternoon finish.
