What Makes It Great

The Mammoth 200 is a 214-mile single loop through the Eastern Sierra Nevada, starting and finishing at Mammoth Mountain in Mammoth Lakes, California. The course circumnavigates a 760,000-year-old volcanic caldera, threading together small mountain communities across a diverse landscape: pristine alpine lakes, abandoned mining corridors, golden fall foliage, the world's largest Jeffrey pine forest, high desert sage flats, volcanic rock formations, and the ethereal tufa towers of Mono Lake. The race is bookended by summit runs atop 11,053-foot Mammoth Mountain, offering sweeping 360-degree views at both the start and finish. Runners navigate over 30,000 feet of climbing with an average elevation of 8,130 feet, facing the full character of October in the Sierra — including the potential for early-season snow and rapidly shifting weather.
