What Makes It Great

A point-to-point 101km ultra through three countries on the second half of the iconic UTMB circuit. Starting in the Italian resort of Courmayeur, the course climbs immediately to high alpine terrain, crosses into Switzerland at the Grand Col Ferret (2,537m) and through Champex-Lac, then traverses the French Alps past Vallorcine and the Vallons des Chezerys before descending into Chamonix. Five major passes above 2,000m and 6,050m of cumulative gain demand both physical fitness and mountain experience. Now the 100K category final of the UTMB World Series, the CCC has grown from the UTMB's 'little sister' into one of the most prestigious and competitive 100K races in the world.

Lottery

Entry via Running Stones lottery system — extremely competitive. Running Stones are earned by completing UTMB World Series qualifier events. Runners with more Running Stones have a higher draw probability. Selection rate varies significantly based on Running Stones held. Elite runners can gain direct qualification through World Series event wins.

Qualifier

Requiredfor race entry

Must complete a 50K race or longer within the qualification window

A valid UTMB index in the 50K, 100K, or 100M category is required. Entry is via the Running Stones lottery system: runners earn Running Stones by completing UTMB World Series qualifying events. The more Running Stones held, the higher the probability of selection in the draw.

Weather

Late August brings warm conditions at lower elevations in Courmayeur and Chamonix (15–25°C during the day), but temperatures drop sharply on the high passes — near Grand Col Ferret (2,537m) temperatures can fall close to freezing overnight. Afternoon thunderstorms are common in the Alps during this period, and conditions can change rapidly above 2,000m. Most runners will spend several hours running through the night with overnight temperatures at altitude around 5–10°C, making warm and waterproof layers essential.

High Altitude

Grand Col Ferret and other passes reach 2,537m; temperatures can drop near freezing at night at altitude

Lightning/Thunderstorm Risk

Afternoon thunderstorms common in the Alps during late August; exposed ridgelines and high passes are dangerous in storms

Cold/Hypothermia Risk

Overnight temperatures at altitude can drop to 5°C or lower; mandatory gear includes warm layers and full waterproofs
