Behind the Rocks Ultra 50 Mile

The flagship event and the most demanding of the four. The 50-miler gains just under 5,800 feet across seven aid stations and carries a 14-hour cutoff. What makes it particularly tough is the back-loading of the climbing - the majority of the elevation gain comes in the second half, when runners are already deep into fatigue. Cell service is sparse or absent for most of the route, and aid stations are far apart, requiring runners to be self-sufficient and carry mandatory water. The course takes in some of the most remote and seldom-visited terrain in the Moab area, earning its reputation as one of the harder desert ultras in the Southwest.
