What Makes It Great

A 119-kilometer loop through the Salzkammergut region of the Austrian Alps, starting and finishing in Fuschl am See. The course makes two major ascents — the Schafberg (1,780 m), known for its historic cog railway, and the Zwölferhorn (1,522 m) — with forest trails tracing the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee in between. Runners pass through alpine pastures, centuries-old lakeside villages including St. Gilgen and Strobl, and high ridgelines with panoramic views over Salzburg and the surrounding lake district. The 23-hour limit means most finishers spend a substantial stretch running in the dark.
