What Makes It Great

Switzerland's oldest ultra trail sends runners on a full alpine loop from Verbier through the Bagnes, Entremont, and Ferret valleys, touching the Italian border at the legendary Grand St-Bernard pass with its historic hospice. Starting at 10 p.m., the route climbs immediately above Verbier, traverses multiple high passes well above 2500 m, skirts glaciers, and crosses a 190-meter suspension bridge near the Panossière glacier with the 4314 m Grand Combin looming overhead. The final challenge is a 1200 m wall back up to the Verbier finish. High-altitude, technical, nocturnal, and relentless — this is the defining race of the Swiss ultra scene.
