Five hilly 10-mile laps of the Chilterns' steepest woodland
Other trail races within 67 miles
A 50-mile race made of five 10-mile laps, all inside Wendover Woods, a Forestry England woodland on the Chiltern escarpment near Aylesbury. Each lap mixes wide, soft forest tracks with fast descents and gentle climbs against short, very steep singletrack ups and downs, many of them rooty. The total is about 10,000 ft of climbing, roughly 200 ft per mile, which makes it one of the hilliest 50-milers in the UK. In mid-November the trails are often covered in wet leaves and mud, and short daylight means most runners finish in the dark. Every lap passes the Trig Point Field race HQ and a mid-lap aid station at Hale Lane, so runners can reach their drop bag four times. There is no crew or pacer access, and the overall limit is 15 hours. The race closes Centurion's four-race 50 Mile Grand Slam each year.

Mid-November in the Chilterns is cold and damp. The race lists an average of about 6°C (43°F), 60% humidity and around 65 mm of rain for the month. Fallen leaves cover much of the course, and when wet they hide roots and make the steep descents very slippery; some trails turn to deep mud as the day goes on. Daylight ends around 16:30, so most runners spend their last laps in the dark as the temperature drops.
